What is Critical Thinking and why it's important: It's evaluating information and our thoughts - dissecting content and asking questions rather than assuming. 'I realize that the older I get, the more I don't know'. Being curious and open to new information is important. I think we also need to have a good awareness of our emotions, biases, beliefs and values, which are filters that can impact our ability to think critically. Being a good critical thinker allows us to make good decisions.
Famous critical thinker: Sir Richard Branson. He seems to have the ability to think critically when, for example, starting up new businesses, many of which he initially knows little about. He would often need to make decisions and have both a holistic overview and a ground level understanding of things.
My score for the assessment was 23/30. But my critical brain is disputing question 13 - lol!
Thank you :-) Liv

Liv-- I can completely relate to your statement that "the older I get the more I don't know". As I look back over my life and think if I had been more curious and open to new ideas--where would I be now? What decisions would I have made differently if I had asked more questions and considered them on a different level.
I also noted that I questioned the answer to #13!

Hi Liv,
I feel the same. It is never safe to assume, and like Christine said, we only really know about 10% of the information in a situation. I think that critical thinkers try their best to see from all points and take the facts, not feelings, to formulate a decision.

Hi Liv- I like your concise description of what critical thinking is and why it's important. I'm curious, you mention being curious and open to new information, how do you think one challenges oneself on things they think they know, things that have always been done this way, things that seem to be working-so why put thinking time into them?

Curiosity to learn more aids in our ability to think critically. I couldn't agree more with self-awareness. Thank you for sharing! Being curious and open to new information is important. I think we also need to have a good awareness of our emotions, biases, beliefs and values, which are filters that can impact our ability to think critically.
