Lesson # 3
There are a few key milestones that I expect to achieve. As I plan to implement in phases, the first phase would be getting a new organizational set up approved, essentially senior leaders giving their endorsement. As a basis for measurement, an initial survey has already been administered and I will use those results for comparison with future quarterly surveys. In looking more long-term, turnover rates will be analyzed against past rates within my department as well as against the industry standard. Absenteeism rates will follow the same as turnover rates for tracking and comparison methods.
In some of the additional phases, delegation of additional tasks (work groups) will be implemented and measured within the survey results, as will the addition of team building activities.
Please also respond to below questions on the Discussion Board and be prepared to discuss in class.
I am open to changing during any of the phases if I feel it is warranted. If an unexpected risk arises, pivoting to keep the project and desired end result on track would be in the best interest of all. The ways in which some changes may occur would depend on the risk or issue that presents itself and the timing involved.
As it stands now, I will be the one responsible for tracking the measurements, gathering the data. This is planned to occur quarterly. If any time-frames change within a phase, then the schedule may have to be adjusted.
Additionally, continuing to seek both formal and informal feedback will be necessary to ensure success. For me, going in the project/plan knowing that plans are not necessarily set in stone, that I may have to adjust for success is disconcerting. However, the ultimate goal is the success of the plan and the plan can only be successful based on the measurements put in place. If quarterly results are not where I expected them to be, adjusting will be necessary.
As you consider your Capstone Project, remember that when designing and developing your plan, HOW you measure success is one of the most important facets of planning to consider. Toward that end, please identify key milestones that you expect to achieve, monitor and track to measure success and Post on the Discussion Board.
In some of the additional phases, delegation of additional tasks (work groups) will be implemented and measured within the survey results, as will the addition of team building activities.
Please also respond to below questions on the Discussion Board and be prepared to discuss in class.
• Will you change course during start-up or implementation based on what you learn? If so, in what ways?
What will be your process for identifying key milestones?
As discussed above, within the phases of implementation, surveys will be administered, data will be tracked and analyzed, and senior leadership will have given their nod of approval.
• Who will be responsible for tracking success or challenges with achieving these milestones? How often?
• Are there any other strategies you will devise to ensure project success?
One of the major strategies I will use is the ability to use critical thinking throughout the process. There may have to be changes made, pivoting to ensure the plan is successful. Unexpected risks will need to be addressed and the ability to constantly stretch during the implementation, as many of the foundations of the plan require that I operate outside of my comfort zone.
