Lesson 2: Considering Your Capstone Project
A. Why did you choose this topic?
I am interested in the current trends in service provision to young adult participants. My program’s performance on our last contract was modest. I want to identify service delivery models of high performing programs that serve a similar population and examine how their efficacy might be replicated. Additionally, I believe there is room for growth in how we respond to RFP’s specifically, our responses need to contain more relevant and up to date information about evidenced -based best practices.
What do you hope to accomplish?
I want to identify Best Practices from two (2) perspectives:
a) Service providers
b) Participants
and then I want to create a workshop module that begins to address the gap between what we currently do and what is identified as evidenced-based best practices.
B. What additional questions might you consider as you build your project?
1. Will this project add value to proposal submissions/business development?
2. Is the construct realistic and the design clear?
3. What will I learn? What opportunities for professional growth will this project offer?
4. What is my end-product?
C. Choose one or two of the approaches and do a bit more research to determine what might be most applicable to your project.
My research indicates the integrative approach, which is centered on Fedcap’s existing structure, coupled with an emergent approach that supports the “What’s new” in the field of program service delivery (in a COVID-19 existing world) and how these emergent trends could add value to our work. The cornerstone of my project will be my ability to leverage a customer-centered approach by incorporating participant perspectives on what works that will provide unique insight from actual recipients of services. These perspectives will identify how participants benefitted or remained unchanged because of their work with a Fedcap program.
