A) Why did you choose this topic? What do you hope to accomplish?
A: I chose this topic because IT is such a crucial part of The Fedcap Group's mission and their goals moving forward. Our environment is very unique and adds more pressure than usual on a technician through their day-to-day work. The research I have done of best IT practices talked in detail about how onboarding can be crucial in preparing a tech to enter your environment. My experience working with the new hire orientation for the company has shown me first hand how effective an onboarding process can be when done right. I believe that if we better prepared IT technicians for the environment when they enter, it could potentially help us retain techs and be more efficient at the service that we provide. This could also help to build a better environment for our day-to-day work as well. We have the foundation to make this happen already and we just need to put some structured effort towards turning it into an onboarding process that can be reproduced and changed as needed.
B) What additional questions might you consider as you build your project?
A: What metrics need to be tracked? What makes these metrics relevant? What type of onboarding material is needed? Has anything like this been tried in the department before? What are the best practices for teaching critical thinking? What are the main issues that need to mitigated with this training? Are there patterns to these issues? Will this training only be for onboarding? Could there possibly be follow up periodic training scheduled moving forward? Is there a cost?
C) Innovative Approaches
A: Incremental Innovation and Integrative Approach would fit the project I have in mind. I am trying to make improvements over time to help build on an existing structure that we have in place.
