Project: Improving participant starts via social media. Specifically, using film content.
Why did you choose this topic?
Participant engagement via social media is certainly within my sphere of influence and it is one of my key objectives as an engagement manager. We have not invested in any expert film content creation to engage partipcant via social media as such we are falling behind the way people engage with social media. Our service relies on self-referrals and we are a payment by results contract. We have seen a recent dip in overall participants starts on the Fair Start Scotland service. This dip can have a negative impact on hitting service milestones and as such our finances.
What do you hope to accomplish?
I want to ensure we remain the best in the market. We are prime and have the best participant engagement record. Moreover, I want to ensure we continue to innovate to enable us to reach those that need our support. I will set out specific improvement milestones, I am looking at improving monthly social media start rates by around 5% each month.
What additional questions might you consider as you build your project?
- Will I have sufficient resource in the team to ensure social media content is being produced at a fast enough pace?
- How do I influence the content production rate when I do not manage the content creator?
- How likely am I to get a return on the investment of the project?
- Has this type of project perhaps been done before outside the UK?
- How far do I want to stretch my timeline for measuring any improvements?
- Do I have the full buy in from key leaders?
- Does the project have a clearly defined scope?
C. This article on innovation offers a variety of history and approaches to innovation. Choose one or two of the approaches and do a bit more research to determine what might be most applicable to your project.
The most relevant 2 approached to my project would be the emergent and customer-centric approach.
Firstly, the emergent approach to innovation is appropriate as it has involved and will continue to involve the understanding and research of the latest social media engagement methods. What are the general population engaging with? What are our competitors doing? What approach gets results? i.e. service starts not just engagement i.e. views.
The customer-centric approach is also very important to this project I plan on running a customer focus group to get input on our new content to help inform innovation and our engagement approach.
