UPDATES MADE - CHANGE TO PROJECT:
A. Considering your "capstone" project--please be prepared to discuss the following questions in class on Sept 24:
Why did you choose this topic? Research shows that “Having positive connections in the workplace reduces stress hormones and increases the neurotransmitters responsible for attention, feelings of pleasure and trust, and keeping fear and worry at bay… Those who work in a collaborative and connected environment are more willing to contribute new and bold ideas that lead to better results”. (https://cardinalatwork.stanford.edu/engage/news/building-culture-connection. Connection in a virtual world has become a real problem. People are missing the ‘water cooler’ moments and conversations. How do we ensure virtual employees remain connected to their peers and the organization?
What do you hope to accomplish? Provide at least one virtual opportunity where people get to connect and learn more about Fedcap and each other. By providing opportunities for people to know more about the organization and the employees who work for it, we will get an increase in organizational connection. Having worked remotely for 2 years, I can speak from experience that it can get lonely and it's easy to disconnect. With the recent changes in many of our roles, how do we ensure we start / maintain peer connection.
Has the project been done before? No. The project will require areas of our business to discuss what they do and also for the team members to tell us something about themselves (if they feel comfortable sharing). It will not be an overly structured session, but kept conversational and small groups (up to 20).
Measuring success will be via a quick survey at the end of the session e.g.:
• this session helped me better understand part of what we do
• this session gave me the opportunity to get to know some of my peers better
• as a result of this session, I feel more connected to Fedcap
• I would like to have more of these sessions
Additional feedback will also be welcomed.
I will work with Engagement and Lori to communicate this and have departments/companies volunteer to hold a session. Sessions will be recorded for future viewing. Number of sessions that I run will need to be determined and how we go about getting volunteers as people are so time poor.
Additional questions - Risk: No-one wants to volunteer and present. I’ll need to consider other risks.

It would be great to provide our global organization with easily accessible learning to help them grow and develop their skills and knowledge.What do you hope to accomplish? Give our employees the opportunity to access relevant and engaging learning from anywhere, at any time. I’d like to provide data and reports to the CEO and Executives on what employees learn and how this impacts bottom line / ROI.
B. The following article offers ideas about how to approach a new project--which you will be creating as your final assignment--and planning to integrate into your work area. Please read the article and then post your answer to the question below on the Discussion Board.
Has the project been done before?
• Implementing learning management systems is not new. However, implementing a new LMS to a global organization of over 3,000 employees is uncommon. Most business would already have this established and running smoothly. This is an incremental innovation, particularly as we’re starting very green field. Additional questions:
• What other threats or risks could I envisage and therefore need to mitigate? For example, organizational readiness. Is leadership and employees ready to adapt? Is the organization hungry for learning? Are there any system issues, functionality that’s not working?• How do I measure success? Do I need to measure ROI on how would I go about doing that? Perhaps a small control group and seeing how certain training directly correlates with knowledge/skills and ultimately productivity.
C. This article on innovation offers a variety of history and approaches to innovation. Choose one or two of the approaches and do a bit more research to determine what might be most applicable to your project.
Interactive Approach: It’s looking at how the LMS can best be leveraged across an organization that already delivers training but doesn’t yet utilize the platform to provide easy accessibility for users.
Incremental innovation: We’re making improvements to an existing product or service over time. For example, introduce people to self-enrollment options (pull vs push learning). Then instructor-led courses via the LMS. Then Manager Self-Service. Then automated recruitment. Then Collaboration groups. Continue adding functionality as Oracle adds features. And we need to do this across 24 different companies in 3 countries, plus be prepared for future growth.
