Lesson 2- Considering Your Capstone Project
B. The following article offers ideas about how to approach a new project--which you will be creating as your final assignment--and planning to integrate into your work area. Please read the article and then post your answer to the question below on the Discussion Board.
What additional questions might you consider as you build your project?
From the reading, Has the project been done before? Peer support in-home service is a non-existent service in New Hampshire. All current in-home services across the state are paraprofessional or clinical in nature and not based on a trust model of support. What I don’t know is if other Parent Partner models across the country might be offering in home peer support services, this is something I need to explore and add to my research.
Questions I still need to iron out:
• What is the timeline for rollout/implementation?
• Do I have appropriate KPI’s in place?
• What is a realistic timeline for measurables?
• Are there any missing training opportunities as staff move to this work?
C. This article on innovation offers a variety of history and approaches to innovation. Choose one or two of the approaches and do a bit more research to determine what might be most applicable to your project.
1. Interactive is the most obvious approach that applies to my capstone idea. I am taking the existing model of peer support and adding another level of service (amplification) to the model that does not have any direct competition in the market.
2. Emergent is another approach that is vital to expanding Peer support and Recovery Peer Support services to In-Home services. I had to research services across the state to validate the gaps and the need for this type of intervention among the communities we currently serve.
3. Customer Centered is another applicable approach for this “idea” or really dream I have had for years. If the families and stakeholders don’t see a value in adding a level of in-home support to peer services, there would be no success in expanding the platform to offering such amplification services.
4. And lastly, taking an active approach is going to be key in this innovation. As a program we must ensure the highest level of care is given to the existing model which has had great success across New Hampshire.
