What is an area that you would like to influence in your day-to-day work environment?
I really enjoyed this reading! “Thinking like a business” is a strategy I would like to use to influence growth within the program and Granite Pathways overall. It is funny, before coming into working within child protection my entire career was in for-profit, somewhere my strategic business thinking has been lost in the service. And I think Granite Pathways has had some hard lessons over the last few years that we have to begin thinking of the future beyond donations and grant funding opportunities.
How might you influence it?
My first intuition is to say “having a growth mindset” will encourage others to change their thinking about our non-profit. But I think there is more I can do within what I do, taking a more hands on approach and stretching outside child protection services. Peer support is evidence based and we have the metrics to show it works in all of Granite Pathways programming. I need to use critical thinking skills to see how we can leverage that and turn our service model into a business model.
What would you do and how would you integrate your learning from the LA in clear and obvious ways?
I would start with critically thinking; can we do more with peer services, what are current gaps where peer services could fill, where, and who are the partners we could utilize and/or influence. Granite Pathways currently has a culture of can-do and a group of individuals hungry to stretch outside their comfort zones. We also have a footprint across New Hampshire through the Strength to Succeed program giving us a unique opportunity for influencing communications on local, state and even federal levels. This would entail all of Granite Pathways to be open to taking on the risk, however with the current culture and metrics, I believe the current risk is to not innovate beyond the current funding streams.
