What I found most interesting about the materials is that they are not only applicable to work and the Leadership Academy, but rather the “self-limiting stories” that I identify in my practice also impact other aspects of my life away from Fedcap. Sometimes I am challenged with procrastination and deadlines in my work, which then don’t magically go away outside of the workday. I agree with all the information shared in the material, especially as it relates to overcoming my comfort zone. As noted, I have several “bad habits” ingrained in my personality, and while I don’t disagree with the intention of the assignment, I am curious if it will effectively change some of these things for the better considering they are to a degree innate to who I am. With that said, I am open to the exercise and hopeful to see positive change not just in the way I work, but also away from work. In terms of some of my feedback received from the 360 Evaluations, I am considering focusing my assignment on enhancing my ability to delegate or providing more constructive feedback to my colleagues, although am still contemplating what will be most beneficial to my growth as a leader.

Hi John,
I think you acknowledge some important self-realizations when it comes to procrastination and meeting deadlines and believe there is absolutely a way to "effectively change these things for the better" as you put it. I do wonder that if you see these traits as "bad habits" or "innate" to who you are, whether that gives you an out to take a pass on this and focus on something else that is perhaps easier. I don't know the answer per se, nor have I seen your 360 results, so it's tough for me to know the kind of feedback coming your way more broadly. That being said, in the six years that I have known you, I see you as an extremely self-reflective and insightful person and believe with some more in depth thinking and teasing this out further with your mentor, that you will find just the right stretch that really challenges you and promises growth! I look forward to learning more in the weeks to come.
Thanks for sharing, Marie

Hi John,
This will be an opportunity for you to stretch beyond boundaries. As we further discussion around willing to stretch looking at some areas to strengthen your knowledge and skills would be so much more fruitful in initiating an assignment. Finding out something that you did not know that facilitates your leadership agenda and getting a feel of how it works. Remember we talked about tackling an assignment that gives you butterflies. I loved that you self reflection and we are always harder on ourselves that anyone else. But now let's see you stretching beyond your boundaries in your knowledge that can attribute to your leadership.
