Lesson #1 Assignment
What struck you most about the readings and video?
The information in both the readings and the video struck me as being simplistic. The information makes perfect sense, however, the thought of going beyond typical comfort levels can be terrifying. In thinking of the information learned/read it was easy for me to understand the thought processes and the necessity but in thinking of specific examples that would relate to me, it becomes much more difficult to envision me carrying out my examples.
Were there things with which you disagreed?
There was not anything I disagreed with. In general, I believe most people prefer to work within their comfort zone and people tend to shy away from areas/things that make them uneasy or anxious – myself included!
What do you want to get out of your STRETCH ASSIGNMENT?
For the STRETCH ASSIGNMENT, I want to be able to push myself out of my comfort zone, be able to learn from mistakes, and gleam confidence from the experience. I want the outcome to be a positive one, more from a learning experience perspective than the actual outcome.
Reflecting back on your 360 results, your current leadership skills and areas where you need to learn and grow, what kind of stretch assignment will serve you best?
I am still undecided about an exact assignment at this point, but feel I have some solid options. From my 360 results, one of my major areas to work on relates to me “giving up control” on some things and delegating more. I have always leaned towards taking on too much so that others are not overburdened and because then I know it will be done exactly how I want it to be done!!! This is a huge area for me to work on, obviously. Another area of consideration is challenging my public speaking abilities. This is an area that I am very uncomfortable with and an area I really need to grow confidence in.
