I do consider myself innovative. I need to be able to think outside of the box and find new solutions on a day to day basis while working in IT. The helpdesk has a lot of unknowns when it comes to how we operate and you need to be ready to think on your feet. Technology is forever chasing innovation and as a person working in IT, regardless of which aspect of it, you need to be chasing that same innovation. I am forever learning new solutions and methodologies to add to my tool kit at work and in my personal life. I really connected to the reading this week because of this aspect of myself. The Eight Pillars of Innovation really stood out for me and there are some points there that I really appreciated. Think big and start small was a big one for me; this is exactly how I approach any situation. I always tell myself to let my passion fuel my objectivity instead of leading it. You can easily get carried away once you are inspired and taking a step back to look at the big picture is important. This will allow you to decide where to start and you always want to start small. Having a long term goal is good but you need short term goals to achieve while pursuing the long term goal. Another great point was spark with imagination, fuel with data. This goes right in line with my earlier statement that you need to let your passion fuel your objectivity. This applies in my daily work in many ways. When troubleshooting a new issue, I sometimes get inspired to try a new solution. This requires me to research said solution and find as much information as I possibly can. Making changes in a computer system can have many adverse effects and you always want to know about as many consequences as possible. I am really looking forward to exploring the innovation aspect of this module.
