Managers: assume 10 managers
Setting – In a large meeting room, seated.
Thank you for coming today. As you may be aware, due to Covid a few city-funded contracts have been really hard hit. We’ve been trying very hard for months now to stay afloat but we’re now in a position of needing to make some difficult decisions and budget cuts. Yes, it will impact some of our people and we will need to let people go. There is no part of my job that is more difficult than this! And I’m sure the same is true for you as leaders. We know there’ll be a reduction in service-delivery and we’ll feel the impacts over the next few months. We don’t yet have specific information but we want to try and be ready: emotionally, mentally and financially.
I appreciate you may have numerous questions about how to help your team and what this may mean for you. I have freed my calendar over the next few days to allow for 1-1 time. We will also be scheduling a large meeting with all employees tomorrow but wanted you to know first. Please keep this confidential until we have a chance to speak with everyone.
We will have EAP available and on-site following tomorrow’s meeting and they are available for you and your team. EAP will provide counseling assistance as well as outplacement support. We’re also hoping to work with other government agencies and recruitment firms to help people transition into new roles.
I will hold Q&A sessions every Friday at lunchtime with a status update. I will also send out relevant information as it comes to me so we can look at ways of moving forward. I’m asking each of you to free your calendars as much as possible to ensure you’re accessible and approachable.
Now I’d like to open the floor to any questions?
Employees: assume 50 people
Setting: large open area, standing.

I appreciate you may have numerous questions. Your managers only found out yesterday as I wanted them to be ready to support you and free up their time. I have also freed my calendar so please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
We will have EAP available and on-site today. EAP will provide counseling assistance as well as outplacement support. You can contact them later, if not today. We are also hoping to work with other government agencies and recruitment firms to help people transition into new roles. I know this is a lot to take in and everyone’s journey will be different. Just know that we will aim to communicate as much as possible AND support you as best we can! I will hold Q&A sessions every Friday at lunchtime with a status update. I will also send out relevant information via email as it comes to me. If we need more face-to-face sessions, we'll certainly schedule those.
Does anyone have questions?
