One of the communicators I enjoy listening to is LES BROWN. One of the points Mike Myatt made was to Get Personal and another was Speak to Groups as Individuals.
He always led with a story or situation that everyone listening could relate to. The one who failed miserably at this was Donald Trump. He spoke and cared nothing about his audience until it was elections. "People don't care what you know, until they know that you care." The trust was something built immediately with Les Brown. The distrust was something built immediately and caused division when voting on bills in the senate. Not being political but this was truly a fail in communication, especially when it came to how he communicated with women initially.
Emotional Intelligence requires self management, Self Awareness and Social Awareness as well. I feel that self-awareness and social awareness are an ongoing thing I will work on to help me develop self-management and social interaction with others. I want to connect with others but not let my knowledge or awareness hinder me but rather equip me to make better, stronger communications.

MarcArthur,
Knowing who your audience is is the key to crafting your message. As you point out it is a critical component to maintaining the attention of your audience and establishing trust and credibility.

Yet Trump had many that followed him and fanatically listened. Did he know his audience?
