I believe that great communicators clearly speak from a place of personal integrity. While you may argue with their versions of the facts they are generally accepted as having communicated in a forthright manner . I will use as an example two American Presidents noted for their ability to communicate. John F. Kennedy and Ronald Regan. Two individuals from different parties and political spheres but both individuals who ability to reach an audience with words that rang truthfully with the American public. Whether it was Kennedy's " Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country" or Regan's " Mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall" their message rang true with individuals across the political spectrum. Effective leadership requires effective communication and effective communication requires honesty in the message
